May 16, 2021 · If you haven't been to the end, the next best option would be to mine down to Y11, find a large lava lake, and use water to set the lava into obsidian and mine it safely. As you mine the obsidian under the water, it pops up before the lava below it sets, making it relatively easy to collect. Either way, it'll take a while to get a lot of obsidian.

Sep 8, 2020 · you can use water and lava to make obsidian, but you will only get one obsidian block per lava bucket. if you don't want to descend into a mine your best bet is to find a lava pond in a plains or ocean and pour water over the pond. then break one obsidian block --- there should be lava underneath it. pour water into this hole (using the side of the obsidian).

Apr 27, 2013 · With obsidian mining, you can make one trip, dig out a bunch of obsidian, and relatively quickly get a couple stacks of obsidian. Because buckets don't stack, several stacks' worth of obsidian would require a bunch of back-and-forth trips from the surface (where you're presumably building) to the lava pools.
