Tropical Storm Erin path update: Latest official track map
As of the latest update, issued at 4 a.m. CDT Thursday, Tropical Storm Erin was located about 990 miles east of the Leeward Islands and was on a path to the west at 17 mph. (The next update will come later this morning, and updates will become more frequent once watches and warnings go into effect for the storm.)
NHC Expects Tropical Storm Erin to Gain Hurricane Strength Over the Weekend -- OPIS
Tropical Storm Erin continued to strengthen overnight and is expected to become a hurricane by Friday, the National Hurricane Center said Thursday morning. The storm, which was about 890 miles east of the northern Leeward Island, has maximum sustained winds of 60 mph and is moving west at about 17 mph, the agency said in an 11 a.m. update.
