Halifax Regional Police say a father and daughter were fatally shot on New Year's Eve in what is believed to be an incident of intimate partner violence, hours before the suspect was also found dead.

The New Year’s Eve killing of a 73-year-old father and his daughter, 40, are a case of “intimate partner violence,” according to Halifax Regional Police. They responded at 10:35 p.m. on Dec. 31 to a report of an injured person on Gottingen Street,

Police say the two people killed in downtown Halifax on New Year's Eve were the victims of intimate partner violence.

The victims have been identified as Cora-Lee Smith, 40, and her father Bradford Downey, 73. Police say Matthew Costain, who was in a relationship with Smith, was later found dead.
