Two people are dead and a third was hospitalized after powerful surf swept three tourists into the ocean this week at a popular beach in Hawaii known for its powerful swells.

A second person who was swept out to sea Monday morning on the North Shore has died. Honolulu police said the woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later died.
