It looks like Will Smith has worked his way from getting benched to the first line. Smith skated with center Mikael Granlund and winger Fabian Zetterlund this morning at UBS Arena, before the San Jose Sharks take on the New York Islanders tonight.
Will Smith had a goal and an assist in his New England homecoming, and goalie Yaroslav Askarov, still recovering from the flu and playing at less than 100% health, made 27 saves. But the Sharks have now lost 14 straight games to the Bruins dating back to the 2015-16 season.
The San Jose Sharks celebrated Pride Night in a big way. On Saturday night, the Sharks saw quite a few of their players, Macklin Celebrini, Cody Ceci and Mario Ferraro to name a few, don Pride tape during pre-game warmups before they faced off against the Minnesota Wild.
Ferraro scored an empty-net goal, added two PIM and went minus-2 in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Red Wings. Ferraro has two goals over six outings in January after failing to record a point in December.
William Eklund, Mikael Granlund, Tyler Toffoli and Mario Ferraro all scored third-period goals to help ... a battle behind the Red Wings’ net and sent the puck in front to Will Smith, whose quick shot was stopped by goalie Ville Husso.
With the Sharks trailing 2-1 midway through the second period, Smith poked the puck off the stick of Jonathan Beecher to himself in the neutral zone, worked a give-and-go with Mikael Granlund, and beat Bruins goalie Joonas Korpisalo with a wrist shot to the short side.
Both things can be true. Luke Kunin and Barclay Goodrow and Ty Dellandrea’s back-to-back-to-back fights, the San Jose Sharks down 3-0 just 6:53 into the game, did spark the team’s spirited comeback.
