The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday said that the Northeast Monsoon is very rigorous over Tamil Nadu and there is a possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in one or two places in the districts of Chengalpattu,

Heavy rain has been pounding Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh for the past few days with the weather office predicting more showers. The schools and colleges in these states have been closed in view of the incessant rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department had forecast very heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning and squalls on Wednesday for coastal, north interior and south interior parts of Karnataka.

Chennai and surrounding areas are experiencing heavy rainfall due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal, which is intensifying into a cyclone. The weather department forecasts further heavy rainfall and the cyclone is likely to hit the Tamil Nadu coast tomorrow.
