With Ariel Atkins sidelined and Kamilla Cardoso in foul trouble, the Sky couldn’t keep pace — and their playoff hopes are on shakier ground.

Angel Reese welcomed the Chicago Sky's newest addition. The Sky signed Marquesha Davis to a seven-day hardship contract on Tuesday morning. Davis played just 31 minutes off the New York Liberty's bench this season before getting waived last week.

For the second straight season, Chicago Sky star forward Angel Reese was voted to the WNBA All-Star Game. And while she didn't have the same kind of eye-popping stats that she did in last year's Team WNBA vs. Team USA All-Star Game format, Reese still made quite the impression, nonetheless.

As Chicago gears up for a postseason push, head coach Tyler Marsh made lineup changes. Marsh and the rest of the Sky’s coaching staff decided to start Angel Reese, thrusting her back into the starting lineup after the WNBA All-Star missed the team’s previous game for “precautionary reasons” with a leg injury.

Chicago Sky co-owner Nadia Rawlinson knew things were serious. The Sky increased security to nearly 24 hours a day — around hotels, outside gyms, by buses and planes. The things that Rawlinson said did not have to be thought about just a few years ago were now prime considerations.

Davis was drafted 11th overall by the Liberty in 2024 and then was waived at the midpoint of this season. Injuries to Ariel Atkins and Courtney Vandersloot qualified the Sky for a medical hardship contract.

The Chicago Sky are carrying a 7-15 record into Tuesday’s matchup with the 20-4 Minnesota Lynx. The Sky currently sit in 11th place in the WNBA standings for the 2025 season after the All-Star break.
