Over the last week, both members of the former Boston bear-hugging duo have received large contract extensions. On Sunday, the Bruins announced they signed No. 1 goaltender Jeremy Swayman to an eight-year contract worth $66 million. Three days later, the Senators announced a four-year, $33 million contract extension for Ullmark.

The Bruins goalie was richly rewarded this week for doing just that, earning an eight-year, $66 million contract for his elite ability to swat away pucks.

The standoff is over. The 25-year-old without a single regular season as a full-time NHL puckstopper won, to the tune of a $66 million deal.

But six days late he signed. They’re united for the next eight years and the Bruins need Swayman to be the goalie he believes he is. He thought he should be paid like an elite goalie. They need him to belong in the comp group — Connor Hellebuyck, Sergei Bobrovsky etc. — he already sees himself in.
