Fixit is selling a new VoltClip tool that lets iPhone 16 and 16 Plus users eject their device’s battery with ease.

Apple recommends removing the iPhone 16’s battery, which is held in place with a new electrically debondable adhesive, by using a 9V battery and some alligator clips. iFixit’s new USB-powered VoltClip is an alternative tool that eliminates the need for a disposable battery, while also potentially speeding up the debonding process.

Unfortunately, the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max haven't moved to the new battery replacement process found in the 16 and 16 Plus. On the bright side, it's much easier to service the USB-C port than before, though Apple doesn't sell that part separately.

Only the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus have the new adhesive, and they’ve earned a 7/10 on iFixit’s repairability scale. “Apple definitely seems to be leveling up on repairability,” Mokhtari, adding Apple has “landed another repairability win” with this year’s base iPhones thanks to the new battery removal procedure.

The new VoltClip from iFixit is a USB-powered tool that delivers 9-12V of power to detach the battery in the iPhone 16. The tool includes a USB-C adapter for power input and alligator clips to be connected to the device.
