Chennai has been struggling with heavy rains, causing waterlogging and traffic problems. The IMD has predicted heavy rains in the region, while the state government is taking preventive measures. Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin inspected flood-prone areas and advised fishermen and IT professionals.

Heavy rains battered Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday as the India Meteorological Department issued a warning about a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, saying that it is likely to turn into a depression.

The School Education Department has also issued a circular to all schools in the state, directing them to implement precautionary measures to ensure student safety during the rainy season.

The IMD forecast suggests that the worst is yet to come, with rains expected to intensify on October 16, before tapering off by October 18. The low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which has already caused havoc in Chennai and its neighbouring districts, is expected to strengthen into a depression as it moves towards the coast.

Tamil Nadu government has mobilised nearly 16 teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), while 10 others belonging to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are assisting in the rescue operations.
