After completing his first NBA training camp, Baylor Scheierman received a bit of brutal honesty from Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla. In essence: I know we drafted you in the first round. But don’t expect to step in and immediately contribute on a team that just won a championship and returned nearly its entire roster.

The ball did not come close to going in, but the moment was notable because that was the only shot Scheierman missed. The Celtics rookie poured in a career-high 20 points — 17 in the second half — to lead the shorthanded Celtics to a 104-96 win over the Nets. It was Boston’s 50th win of the season.
