New Delhi: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday said the administration's "inaction" amid the violence in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich is "unfortunate" and appealed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take the strictest action against the culprits.

Tensions flare in Bahraich as a festive celebration turns deadly, with one man shot and several injured over a music dispute during a Durga immersion procession.

The face-off occurred on Sunday in the Mahrajganj area of Mansoor village when a Durga idol immersion procession passed through. Around half a dozen people were injured in stone pelting and firing.

"Those who spoil the atmosphere in Mahsi of Bahraich district will not be spared," Adityanath said as the incident took place when the procession was passing through Mahrajganj Bazar in Mansoor village of Mahsi tehsil.
