Holiday travelers returning home this weekend could contend with more delays at airports as severe thunderstorms intensify and tornadoes break out in the South and a parade of atmospheric river-fueled storms slams the West.

Severe thunderstorms are firing up in parts of Texas and could trigger high winds, hail and potential tornadoes.

Weather in Dallas Thursday threw a serious wrench into holiday travel. Hundreds of flights were canceled or delayed at Dallas-Fort Worth International, the third-busiest airport in the nation. The FAA issued ground stops throughout the day due to thunderstorms, backing up flights by 90 minutes or more.
