Chennai and surrounding areas are experiencing heavy rainfall due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal, which is intensifying into a cyclone. The weather department forecasts further heavy rainfall and the cyclone is likely to hit the Tamil Nadu coast tomorrow.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh as a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal has moved towards the west-northwest at a speed of 12 kmph.

According to the IMD's latest forecast, heavy to extremely heavy rains are expected to impact various parts of Tamil Nadu on October 16.
