Pakistani police have charged the country’s imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan with attempted murder over the death of a policeman during violent protests last weekend by his supporters.

The new case was filed at the Noon police station in Islamabad, encompassing serious charges such as attempted murder, arson, violence against police personnel, and violations under the anti-terrorism act.

Life was returning to normal in the Pakistani capital on Monday after the violent protest by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf supporters subsided in the wake of high drama involving the mysterious disappearance of the party leader Ali Amin Gandapur.
