For the first time, India on Wednesday suspended the World Bank-mediated Indus Waters Treaty of 1960, which ensures water for 80% of Pakistani farms.

In the days since, tensions have risen dangerously between India and Pakistan, which have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir.

A deadly attack on mostly Indian tourists in contested Kashmir has sparked rising military tensions in the region. Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged fire for a third night in a row, and India has held naval drills.
