Sure, Lawrence Taylor's No. 56 is retired by the New York Giants and is one of the most revered jersey numbers in franchise history. But Carter, the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL draft Thursday night, idolizes Taylor and wanted to see if he'd be cool with him going after quarterbacks all these years later while wearing that familiar number.

Taylor's No. 56 has indeed been retired by the Giants, so Carter will need to find another number for etching his legacy in the Big Apple. It's more than fair for Taylor to decline any request to share his No. 56.

During an interview with the New York Post, the Pro Football Hall of Famer made it clear that he would NOT be giving Carter permission to wear No. 56. "I know he would love to wear that number, but hey, I think it's retired," Taylor said. The two-time Super Bowl winner then offered some terse advice to Carter.
