A new La Niña forecast has been released as winter nears, but what does that mean for the Chicago area? According to the National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center, La Niña is favored to emerge and is expected to persist through sometime between January and March of 2025,

The long-promised La Niña climate pattern hasn't yet formed but is still expected to within the next month or so, federal scientists say. Specifically, the Climate Prediction Center said Thursday that there is a 60% chance that La Niña conditions will emerge by the end of November.

Winter is not here yet, but climate experts are already predicting that this year it’ll feel a lot different than last year's season.
