Matthew Gant said 14-year-old Mary Steele Gant was at Camp Mystic in central Texas when the camp was overwhelmed by flash flooding, WMC Action News 5 reported. Rain overwhelmed the Guadalupe River on July 4, causing it to rise as much as 26 feet in less than two hours.

Three days after cataclysmic floods tore through a stretch of the Texas Hill Country, officials have confirmed the deaths of 27 children and counselors who had been missing from a girls’ summer camp.

"Camp Mystic is grieving the loss of 27 campers and counselors following the catastrophic flooding on the Guadalupe river," started the statement on the website of Camp Mystic for Girls. "Our hearts are broken alongside our families that are enduring this unimaginable tragedy. We are praying for them constantly."
