The man allegedly got into the patrol car while armed with a gun after assaulting a Fountain Valley police officer on Friday.

It happened Friday in the 17300 block of San Mateo Street, north of Slater Avenue and east of Brookhurst Street

A Fountain Valley Police officer shot and killed an allegedly armed man Friday morning. The shooting occurred shortly after 11 a.m. in the 1700 block of San Mateo Street, where officers had been called to investigate a report of a suspicious man trying to open the door of an occupied car,

After a witness reported a man trying to get into a woman's car, the suspect attacked a reponding police officer in her idling squad car and was shot by another officer, police said.

The department said it wasn't clear if the man had the gun before getting into the officer's car, or if he got it once he was inside.
