ChatGPT stopped working for many users on Thursday afternoon, when the chatbot suddenly couldn’t respond to queries, with some users seeing an “internal server error” message.

OpenAI is working to fix an issue that caused major outages in its applications, including ChatGPT. A statement from the artificial intelligence (AI) company, posted on social media platform, X, just after 4 p.m. Thursday, noted "most" of ChatGPT, the API, and Sora were down Thursday afternoon.

A company status page showed ChatGPT and the company’s application programming interface (API) experiencing a “major” outage, while Sora had a “partial” outage. More than 12,000 people reported OpenAI-related in the last 24 hours, according to the monitoring site Downdetector.
