Called in for a morning walk. It was very pleasant and worth the visit, although there wasn't much signage for the walks. Cafe was busy...not a huge choice of food, plenty of outside seating. Full review by SKKBmouth

A popular place with families and dog walkers. We just had a walk round the lake then a drink at the cafe. You can however take several other walks and boats out on the lake. The cafe serves limited … Full review by Julie P

When is the best time to see the Rhododendrons fully in bloom, beginning or end of May?
A:
They have recently done some work on them so one large patch has been chopped back in order to control it, last year we came in early May and there were not disappointed in the blooms
Hi, would 5 hours here just to relax be a bit too much? Once it gets dark is there anywhere to hang out?

Hi! That really depends on what you are intending to do and who is with you. I've certainly spent that amount of time at Claremont with my children on good weather days - doing a mixture of things such as walking, playing in the play area, making dens in the natural play area, and having lunch. However I would struggle to do that in the winter I feel! I've also visited on my own a few times and can easily spend two or three hours there if wandering around, looking at the birds and eating some lunch. I suspect that if I only had the time, I would quite happily spend 5 hours there if I found a quiet corner to sit and read a book while looking at the views - again, more of a warmer weather pursuit! There isn't a 'house' there so it is just the gardens you'd be visiting for. Also note that the cafe / shop are nice but quite small compared to other NT properties, so not so good to 'hang out' in! Currently the cafe closes at 3.30 and the gardens at 4.00 so no, nothing to do after dark! I'd recommend a visit, but if you are looking for something to do for a longer time then nearby Painshill Park (not NT) is also lovely, and extensive, and you could do them both on the same day if you have plenty of hours to spare. If you are looking for things to do after dark then Esher town centre, up the road from Claremont, is packed with shops, restaurants and a cinema. Have a lovely relaxing time!
